There is a fixed amount of water in the world that’s been here since the beginning of time. The water in your tap is the same water that the dinosaurs drank millions of years ago. How is this possible?

The water cycle of course !

Water is in a constantly moving cycle and heat is the key to how this happens. Water changes it’s form as it’s heated or cooled. When it is heated it turns to steam or vapour and when it’s cooled it turns back to a liquid or into solid ice. The water cycle is made up of five main parts

  • Evaporation
  • Transpiration
  • Condensation
  • Precipitation
  • Collection

Take a look at the different parts of the water cycle to see how and why heat is so important in the process
